Case Study
Aerosol Cages for Whittan Storage Systems Client’s Warehouse
Aerosol Cages with a Stringent Specification, WRG Steel Partitioning are proud to be involved with a project for one of our Premier Trade Customers, Whittan Storage Systems. The project was for their client in Cheshire. The requirement was to supply and install 12 Aerosol Cages at their client’s warehouse in Cheshire.
Brief
Working with Whittan, the brief was to design 12 Aerosol Cages in a large warehouse for a client in the Distribution industry. To meet the stringent requirements, the end client required 12 bespoke Aerosol Cages to comply with risk management and property insurance policies to protect the assets.
Additional involvement from the fire service was required to ensure accessibility in the case of an emergency call out. From this, the emergency records were updated to ensure the best way to manage their duties if necessary. Whittan formally identified the areas with supporting emergency plans and drawings.
Solution
WRG Steel Partitioning designed the eight-sided enclosure to cover the 144 required bays of racking. Whittan designed the racking with an increased flue size of 700mm. WRG supported this by designing, and manufacturing 300mm bespoke stand off brackets to allow the sprinkler system to run centrally through the flue.
Each cage was 37 mtrs long x 17 mtrs wide and 11 mtrs high, with an all-mesh roof to cover and enclose all aerosol cages.
Forklift truck (FLT) entrance using a Roller door 2 meters wide x 5.7mtrs high was designed for access using fabricated 100mm x 100mm goal post arrangement to mount the roller doors ,which automatically rolls to the closed position when the fire alarm is activated. Along with the FLT entrance, we installed a pedestrian emergency escape push bar and auto door closer along the centre run of racking through all 12 racking frames in both locations.
For this construction, we used our Single Skin mesh panels in multiple lifts for the vertical runs with a 25mm x 25mm x 12g mesh grid to comply with storing aerosols and was finished in Graphite Grey.
We also used our Single Skin solid panels in multiple lifts for the horizontal runs to aid with acoustic noise carry-over also meeting with storing aerosols compliance and was finished in Graphite Grey.
Installation was carried out by one of our registered trade installers, and was completed on time and within budget.
