Protective Mesh Walls at Anfield Stadium
WRG Steel Partitioning has recently worked in partnership with Richardsons Shelving, one of our customers in the North East for Anfield Stadium. The requirement was to supply and install mesh protection at their client’s stadium in Merseyside.

Brief
Working with Richardsons Shelving, we were briefed to design and manufacture a bespoke and protective mesh partitioning wall to comply with risk management and property insurance to ensure that match days at the stadium remained safe.
The wall was to act as a barrier between home and away premier league fans in the stadium, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all on match days, including fans, players, club staff and match officials. Additional involvement from the end-user was needed to ensure it was suitable for all games, including cup competitions.
From this, a working document was produced and Richardsons Shelving and WRG Steel Partitioning devised a working programme, formally identifying the areas with supporting emergency plans and drawings.
Solution
To meet the stringent safety requirements, WRG recommended bespoke mesh fencing and mesh guarding systems finished in light grey.
We designed the three areas that needed a mesh screen and fencing in three parts to ensure a safe environment for the fans. Part one was to install a mesh fence along the whole length of the concourse situated on a brick wall 3 metres high, running the entire length of the 100-metre walkway to ensure no objects could be thrown over.
Part two was the installation of the mesh fencing above the steel and roller doors in the food kiosk areas, allowing for extra capacity during FA Cup games.
Part three was to install mesh panels above the doors from the turnstiles to ensure the safe movement of fans to the hospitality suites, which are used mainly during European and cup matches.
