Steel Partitioning – Enclosed Spaces in Factories and Warehouses
Spaces are becoming more versatile and flexible to optimise costs and improve productivity. Through our trade customers, we have seen an increase in demand for dedicated and enclosed meeting rooms in factories, warehouses, and other busy environments. This helps create a cleaner and less industrial environment for your employees and visitors.
Steel partitions are used to divide and subdivide in these particular environments for cost, durability and flexibility, just to name a few. They are often used to create offices but can be used for various applications across a factory, such as meeting rooms, break-out areas, workshops, control rooms, storage areas, staff rooms and more! As well as these common uses, there are more high specification occasions such as temperature-controlled areas, which are used for storage of high-risk products/uses.
To ensure the best design for your client’s warehouse, we recommend bespoke solutions to optimise the space’s height, width, and depth for optimal flow and processes within warehouses and factories.
So Why Steel Partitioning?
Steel partitioning holds many advantages for warehouses and factories over more traditional solutions such as plasterboard or timber; here are a couple of our favourites:
- Panels are bolted to the floor and, therefore, are fully demountable and can be re-configured to accommodate future change and be used in other areas of the factory if required
- The material is very durable and robust
- Bespoke panel arrangement is available – you can use a combination of solid panels, solid panels with glazing or even mesh
- Speed of installation against traditional methods
- No need to decorate after, partition comes complete with a choice of colour finishes
Which System Would Suit My Client’s Requirements?
As we have mentioned, steel partitions are a great way to redesign a space or protect high-value products and people. Below we have outlined our most common steel partitioning systems and their advantages – remembering that all solutions can be manufactured to your unique requirements.
| System | Flexible panel configuration | Robust | Acoustics | Thermal properties | Application example | Bespoke heights & widths | Demountable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single Skin | Y | Y | N | Y | Meeting rooms | Y | Y |
| Double Skin | Y | Y | Y | Y | Meeting rooms | Y | Y |
| Mesh | Y | Y | N | N | Storage solutions | Y | Y |
| Clean Room | Y | Y | Y | Y | Sensitive use i.e. protects against pollutants | Y | Y |
Single Skin Partitioning
This system is formed through a panel system and through its simple design and construction, it is very quick and easy to construct. This system can be flexible in its panel configuration, with solid and/or glazing as well as mesh to suit the application. This is also a great system for privacy.
Its versatility is also related to its height and width. It can be multi-tiered to meet high ceiling requirements, or alternatively, there are complimentary ceiling solutions if your client prefers.
Double Skin Partitioning
Designed the same as the Single Skin Partitioning solution, the Double Skin offers all the same benefits, plus additional performance.
For spaces that need to achieve a certain dB rating, Double Skin is more appropriate. An example of this is if a meeting room is being designed within the factory, the noise from the machinery may disrupt conversations unless sound-reducing systems have been considered.
Mesh Partitioning
Mesh Partitioning is often used to secure enclosures for storage, separate areas, or protect people and machinery. Pharmaceutical drugs and site equipment are examples of high-value items that are stored securely using mesh partitioning.
This system too can be designed to suit any specification in terms of height or width but has the benefit of allowing light to flood the space and facilitating sprinkler systems.
Clean Room Partitions
Partitioning for clean rooms is a much more specialised offering often used in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and medical industries. These partitions are designed using fewer joints and flush glazing to protect against pollutants.
